Abstract In the last three decades, organic semiconductor-based electronic devices have attracted a great deal of attention in the field of electronic and optoelectronic engineering. These devices offer low cost, light weight, and large area applications together with fabrication flexibility. They can be fabricated on various substrates even at room temperature and exhibit some unique electrical properties compared to inorganic semiconductor devices. Despite numerous advantages associated with organic semiconductor based electronic devices it is felt that they are lacking in electronic industry because of low efficiency. In order to improve efficiency of an organic semiconductor device, it is imperative to have a comprehensive knowledge of charge transport mechanism. This, along with other factors, tends to influence the device characteristics. This will help to achieve efficient organic semiconductor devices both from operational as well as from design point of view.
